SICK, one of world's leading providers of sensors, safety systems, encoders, machine vision and automatic identification systems was founded in 1946 by Dr. Erwin Sick in Germany. Sick's engineering background helped him develop the first wooden light curtain in 1951. As SICK and his employees continued to patent various industrial products, the company started to make a splash internationally…including in the United States.

Just 30 years after SICK was founded the U.S. subsidiary was born. Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minn., SICK, Inc. has sales offices throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Today, with more than 450 patents, SICK is one of the major manufacturers of factory and logistics automation solutions.
